Frequently asked questions

Is the in-home water test really free?

Yes. The local provider tests your water at your home at no charge. They may recommend equipment and give you a quote, and whether you buy anything is up to you.

What does water treatment usually cost?

Based on national cost guides, a softener typically runs $1,200–$3,800 installed, whole-house filtration $1,100–$3,500 and under-sink reverse osmosis $300–$1,500. The provider will quote your home after testing.

Who will come to my home?

North Coast Water Check is an independent referral service. When you call, you’ll be connected with a local water treatment provider, who does the test and any work you choose to have done.

Is this a lab test?

No. The in-home test typically checks things like hardness, iron, pH, total dissolved solids, chlorine, which help with stains, smell, scale and sizing equipment. It doesn’t tell you whether water meets drinking water standards. For that, use a certified lab.
